Newcastle 5K raises $5,300

The second-annual Newcastle 5K Run/Walk — held Aug. 28, starting and finishing in Lake Boren Park — raised $5,300 for the Hazen High School Booster Club.
The funds will be used to support the school’s cross country and track teams.
“These donations have been made possible from participant fees, generous sponsor support, city of Newcastle staff and significant volunteer hours,” organizer Lee Strom wrote in a press release.

Car break-in
A woman reported that her 1997 Toyota 4Runner was broken into at the Walker’s Run Condominiums, 7453 Newcastle Golf Club Road, between 6 and 9 p.m Sept. 17. She reported that her purse and its contents together worth $75 were stolen. The woman had left her window about an inch down with the doors locked, and she came back to find the vehicle had been entered.
