The league is open to children ages 5-14, and registration closes Jan. 31. Those who join also receive a free Newcastle Baseball Club T-shirt.

Mail theft

A woman reported her mail was stolen from the 9000 block of 133rd Avenue Southeast between noon and 1 p.m. Jan. 3. She reported three outgoing checks were stolen.

Car break-ins

A man reported his 1999 Toyota 4Runner had been broken into at the Wilderness Creek Trailhead, 10400 Renton-Issaquah Road S.E, between 2 and 2:45 p.m. Jan. 4. The rear, passenger-side window had been shattered, and he reported that a bag of camera equipment, several knives and other miscellaneous items had been stolen. He valued his losses at $7,821.

Parks Commissions recommends dog park at sports park site

$25,000 ruled not enough to create, maintain potential park

After holding two public hearings, the Parks Commission unanimously passed a recommendation to the City Council Jan. 12  that an off-leash dog park be constructed at the site of the future sports park on Southeast 95th Way.

However, the commission also unanimously voted that the council’s recommended budget of $25,000 would not be enough to construct and maintain a dog park, given that it would only be enough to build a one-acre park and maintain it for one year.

City Manager Rob Wyman said the City Council will likely review the commission’s recommendation at its Feb. 1 meeting.
