Liberty baseball, Hazen soccer playoffs cut short

Liberty High School’s baseball playoff run was cut short after a 10-1 loss to Mercer Island High School May 10, and Hazen High School’s boys soccer playoff run suffered the same fate after a 3-0 loss to Auburn Mountainview High School the same evening.
Liberty’s loss came in the first round of the KingCo 3A Tournament, and Hazen’s soccer loss came in a seeding game en route to the West Central District III Tournament.
Valley Medical Center to host chamber event May 12

Valley Medical Center’s Newcastle clinic, 7203 129th Avenue S.E., will host a Newcastle Chamber of Commerce after-hours event from 5:30-7:30 p.m. May 12. The free event will showcase local businesses as well as the Newcastle Elementary School and Hazelwood Elementary School PTSAs.
There will also be an update on the Newcastle Library construction in addition to games and giveaways for children who attend.
Mayor John Dulcich will speak to open the event.

Newcastle Elementary, Maywood Middle schools seek members for site councils

Newcastle Elementary School and Maywood Middle School are seeking members for their respective site councils for the 2011-2012 school year.
Site councils — which consist of parents, staff members and occasionally students —advise school principals on how to advance student learning. The councils focus on using “strong shared planning, communications and problem-solving,” according to the Issaquah School District’s website.
Hazen soccer advances to playoffs with 3-0 win

The Hazen High School boys soccer team took down Highline High School 3-0 in a tie breaker game May 7 at Renton Memorial Stadium for the final Seamount League playoff spot. The Highlanders next take on Auburn Mountainview High School at 7 p.m. May 10 at Harry Lang Stadium in Tacoma.
With a win in Tacoma, Hazen would take on Columbia River High School at 7:30 p.m. May 12 at Olympia’s Ingersoll Stadium. The winner would advance to the West Central District III Tournament to battle for a spot in the state tournament.

Car stripped
A man reported that his 2000 Toyota Tacoma was burglarized into at QFC, 6940 Coal Creek Parkway S.E., between 6:30 a.m. and 7:10 p.m. April 22. He reported that the catalytic converter had been cut off the car’s exhaust system.
Job site graffiti
Police noticed just after midnight April 24 that a construction trailer tagged with graffiti at the Newcastle Library construction site at the corner of Newcastle Way and 129th Avenue Southeast. A locked chain link fence surrounded the trailer, and the paint was fresh enough that it still smelled.
