The Hazen High School baseball team was crowned champion of the Seamount League May 4 after Kennedy Catholic High School defeated Lindbergh High School twice in a double header that day. Conversely, the boys soccer team is one win from the playoffs, as it needs a victory against Highline High School May 7 to advance to the postseason.
Baseball
The baseball team finished its season in second place in the Seamount League with a 13-3 overall record and a 12-2 record in league play. Lindbergh sat atop the league prior to its final two games with a 12-2 overall record and an 11-1 record in league play.
Hazen now enters the seeding round of the playoffs as the No. 1 3A seed from the Seamount League, and it will face off against South Puget Sound League 3A champion Enumclaw High School at 1 p.m. May 7 at Auburn Mountainview High School. If Hazen wins, it will enter the state tournament as the No. 1 seed in its district.
If the Highlanders lose, they would face off against South Puget Sound League 3A second place finisher Auburn Mountainview High School at 7 p.m. that day. The winner of that game would take the No. 2 seed in the district, and the loser would take the No. 3 seed.
Soccer
The soccer team finished the season with a 5-6-2 overall record and a 5-4-2 record in league play, tying with Highline High School for third place in the Seamount League. Hazen finished its season against Highline May 5 in a winner-advances loser-goes-home battle, but it ended in a 1-1 draw.
The two will duke it out for the playoffs once more during a 7:30 p.m. game at Renton Memorial Stadium.
