Renton Police arrested 24-year-old admitted car prowler Andrew Hoffman the morning of March 4 for possession of stolen property. Most of the stolen property in his possession was linked to car prowls that had been committed hours earlier in the Olympus and Highlands neighborhoods.
Hoffman was also linked to several prowls in Renton, and he pleaded not guilty to second-degree theft, second-degree vehicle prowl and second-degree malicious mischief, according to charging documents.
He is being held on bail of $25,000, and his case setting hearing was March 31, after Newcastle News’ deadline.
Although Hoffman pleaded not guilty, he admitted to prowling on a nightly basis, and said he was committing crimes to make money because he had just gotten out of prison, is the father of two expected children and could not find a job, according to charging documents.
Police said you can help prevent car prowls by closing your windows, locking your doors and not leaving your keys in the car. Furthermore, police suggested removing loose items from your car — especially electronics, purses, wallets and anything in plain view — and keeping your car parked in a well-lit area.
