The snow storm that missed Newcastle Wednesday arrived a day late, closing schools and making driving treacherous.

The Issaquah School District cancelled classes for Thursday. Go here for more information.

The Renton School District initially was on a 90-minute delay, but at 8:30 a.m., officials decided to close school and have children return home. Go here for more information.

Southeast 76th Street and 116th Avenue Southeast to Lake Washington Boulevard has been closed. Snowplows are operating on Priority 1 and Priority 2 routes. Go here for a list of snow plowing routes.

Coal Creek Parkway Southeast about a mile north of Newcastle is littered with cars, said Newcastle Police Chief Melinda Irvine.

There are no reported power outages in Newcastle, she said.

As for road conditions, a combination snow and icy hail struck Newcastle early this morning.

“That caused a lot of bad spin outs. The roads are very icy,” Irvine said.

She also urged motorists to avoid traveling if at all possible.

“Stay home if you can,” she said.
