Newcastle Police Chief Melinda Irvine said there are no leads or suspects in a rash of three recycling container fires in the city during the past week.
The latest fire occurred about 8:30 p.m. Oct. 24 in the 12600 block of Southeast 80th Way. in the Olympus neighborhood. In that fire, the container was on the curb.
The first two fires were Oct. 22 and 23 in the Hazelwood Hills neighborhood. In both those, the container was up against a house, Irvine said.
All three fires were contained to the recycling containers. The cause of the fires is unknown, she said.
“It’s unusual for us to have three of these, and to have two of them up against a house,” she said.
Anyone with information should call police at 649-4444 or King County Fire Investigators at 206-296-6670.
