New principal at Maywood Middle School

The Issaquah School District made some changes in the weeks leading up to the start of school Sept. 3.
Patrick Murphy, principal at Maywood Middle School, left his position to take an administrative post at the district level.

Taking Murphy’s place at Maywood is Jason Morse, former assistant principal at Issaquah Middle School.

Murphy will assume his newly created position as executive director of secondary schools, overseeing education at the district’s middle and high schools.

The position was created partly because Mike Gallagher, former executive director of high school education, left the district Aug. 1 to take a position in the Mukilteo School District.

Murphy has 12 years experience working at the middle and high school levels. From 1992-96, he was a teacher at Marcus Whitman Junior High School in the South Kitsap School District. From 1996-99, he was assistant principal at Bremerton Junior High School.

The Issaquah district hired him in 1999 as assistant principal of Issaquah High School. He became the assistant principal at Maywood in 2001; he became principal there in 2003.

Morse was hired as assistant principal at Issaquah Middle School in 2004. Prior to that, he was an administrative intern in Federal Way. His teaching experience includes six years at Totem Middle School and one year at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.
