The Washington State Board of Education invites students to make films about the importance of math, science, technology or Career and Technical Education courses for its second annual video contest.
Each entry should be between 5 and 10 minutes and fall into the categories of documentary or creative (fiction or nonfiction). All entries will be placed on the State Board of Education’s YouTube Channel and will be used during its meetings and outreach sessions.
The first and second place prizes for each category are a $75 and $25 gift certificate, respectively.

Weed Warriors holds holiday card contest

The Newcastle Weed Warriors are searching for art to include in an electronic holiday card this year. Drawings, paintings, photos, Photoshop creations or anything else will be accepted, according to the Weed Warriors’ website.
The Weed Warriors will e-mail a card with the winning art to friends, families, businesses and environmental stewardship groups. The winner will also receive a $20 gift certificate to Sweet Decadence.
E-mail submissions to Weed Warriors founder Grace Stiller at gracestiller@comcast.net by Nov. 27. Submitted art should be generic and applicable to all winter holidays. Themes that highlight environmental issues are appreciated.

The deadline for the Fourth of July Celebration poster contest is Friday.
Send your submission to Parks Program Manager Michael Holly. Electronic copies can be e-mailed to Holly at michaelh@ci.newcastle.wa.us.
The winning poster will be displayed on 11-by-17-inch paper at City Hall and in storefronts as advertisements for the event.
