Keep your pet safe in hot weather

With temperatures soaring into the 90s, Seattle Humane reminds pet owners to keep their furry friends safe from the heat.

Do not leave your pet in your vehicle. Even at 70 degrees, the interior of a car can rise to 160 degrees in less than five minutes. Parking in the shade with the windows cracked is also dangerous.

Your pet’s footpads contain sweat glands that help keep him cool, and the feet are particularly vulnerable to hot surfaces. Sidewalks, pavement, sand and especially black asphalt can reach blistering temperatures in direct sunlight and cause nasty burns on your pet’s feet.

Mack Strong’s annual charity golf tournament is July 1

Former Seattle Seahawk, and Newcastle resident, Mack Strong will host his annual charity golf tournament and dinner auction July 1 at The Golf Club at Newcastle.

The event, in its eighth year, supports Strong’s TEAM-WORKS Foundation, an organization he founded with his wife Zoe to empower at-risk youths toward a better future.

TEAM-WORKS partners with entities in the Northwest to offer mentoring services for disadvantaged youths and their families in indigenous, minority and impoverished communities. The nonprofit organization’s goal is to encourage kids to develop strong minds, strong bodies and strong character. Read more
