Chamber to host King County sheriff

The Newcastle Chamber of Commerce will host King County Sheriff John Urquhart at its September luncheon.

Urquhart will give an update on all that’s happening at the King County Sheriff’s Office, and answer audience questions. The city of Newcastle contracts with the King County Sheriff’s Office for police services.

The luncheon starts at 11 a.m. Sept. 10 at Tapatio Mexican Grill, 6920 Coal Creek Parkway S.E. The cost is $20 for chamber members and $25 for nonmembers. RSVP for the luncheon at http://newcastle-chamber.org.

Newcastle Days is Sept. 6

Newcastle will celebrate its 20th year as an incorporated city Sept. 6 with the annual Newcastle Days festival at Lake Boren Park.

The festivities kick off at 10:30 a.m. with a small parade featuring bands, dance troops, cheer squads and Scouts as they make a loop through the park.

The celebration will see the return of old favorites, including the car show, and displays from Newcastle Trails and the Newcastle Historical Society, as well as the Newcastle Chamber of Commerce’s beer and wine garden.

The festival wraps up at 7 p.m. after a performance by headlining band White, starring Newcastle resident/Yes drummer Alan White.

Local businesses to hold Seahawks kickoff tailgate party

NEW — 6 a.m. Sept. 2, 2014

The Seattle Seahawks officially open the 2014 regular season Sept. 4, and two local businesses are ready to celebrate in style.

Newcastle’s HomeStreet Bank and B & E Meats and Seafood are throwing a community tailgate party on gameday.

The fun kicks off at 11:30 a.m. and goes until 1:30 p.m. Sept. 4 at HomeStreet Bank, 6949 Coal Creek Parkway S.E. There will be free food, drinks and prizes, as B & E Meats and Seafood employees grill up their best creations.

The Seahawks host the Green Bay Packers at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 4.
