County to host meeting about efforts to keep May Creek clean

King County employees will host a public meeting June 23 to discuss their work over the last few months to design roadside bioretention swales.
The swales will help keep May Creek clean, as officials look to improve water quality in the May Creek watershed for the benefit of all.
At the 6 p.m. June 23 Renton meeting, employees will discuss how the locations were chosen, how roadside bioretention swales help clean stormwater runoff and how the project could affect May Creek-area residents.
The meeting is at the Lord of Life Church, 12819 160th Ave. S.E., Renton.

Newcastle’s Tony Ventrella stars in ‘Tuesdays with Morrie’

Newcastle resident Tony Ventrella will star as the title character in a local production of “Tuesdays with Morrie” June 20-21 at Redmond’s Evergreen Family Theatre.
The play, based on the Mitch Albom memoir, chronicles Albom’s 14 Tuesdays getting reacquainted with his beloved sociology professor Morrie Schwartz, all while Schwartz slowly succumbs to Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Ventrella, who plays Schwartz, has three remaining performances: 7:30 p.m. June 20-21 and 2 p.m. June 21. Tickets are $12-$14. The Evergreen Family Theatre is housed in the RedWood Family Church, 11500 Redmond-Woodinville Road.

Three public hearings on June 17 City Council agenda

The Newcastle City Council will meet at City Hall for the first time this month June 17, with a regular meeting agenda that calls for three public hearings.
The first public hearing is attached to discussion of the city’s 2015-2020 Transportation Improvement Program. The TIP is a state-required planning tool that ensures each city maintains advanced plans toward carrying out a coordinated transportation program.
The second public hearing is connected to discussion of the city’s transportation impact fee update and the third is in conjunction with a talk about the city’s parks impact fee.
Impact fees are a comprehensive grouping of charges based on new development within a local municipality. These fees are assessed to pay for capital facility improvement projects necessitated by new development. Read more
