Schools’ committee looks for public input on student nutrition

The Issaquah School District’s nutrition advisory committee will host a public meeting regarding new U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines for student nutrition and activities.
The meeting will be from 3-5 p.m. April 30 at the district’s administration building, 565 N.W. Holly St. The committee will listen to public comments for 10-20 minutes at the beginning. The public is invited to stay and listen to the remainder of the meeting.
The committee is looking to update the district’s wellness policy by incorporating new USDA guidelines on food and beverages in schools, and also establish standards for physical activity and nutrition education for all students.

Friends of Renton Schools fundraiser set for April 28

The Friends of Renton Schools will host its fifth annual benefit breakfast, headlined by speaker Randy Gardiner, on April 28.
Gardiner is the president, CEO and chairman of the locally based Red Dot Corp., the leading manufacturer of heaters and air conditioners for commercial and military vehicles.
The benefit is the main fundraiser for the school foundation that provides supplemental funding to support the Renton School District. This year, donations will go toward the new funding priorities in STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
The breakfast is free, although there is an opportunity to donate. Donations to the organization are 100 percent tax deductible. Read more
