Newcastle Elementary School PTSA makes snowflakes for Sandy Hook

The Newcastle Elementary School PTSA is doing its part to ensure students of Sandy Hook Elementary School are greeted with a winter wonderland when the students are relocated to their new building.
Students and families are encouraged to get creative and make snowflakes that will be sent to help decorate the school.
The PTSA will be collecting snowflakes and sending them to Connecticut. To ensure your snowflakes are included, send them in an envelope and drop them off at the PTSA office, once school is back in session, no later than Friday, Jan. 4. Read more
Hazen High School weapon rumor not a ‘credible threat’

Attendance at Hazen High School was down Dec. 20, after a rumor that there may be a weapon brought to the school came to administrators’ attention.
It was not known if the absences were directly related to the rumor, since it was also the last day before winter break and many students may have left early for holiday vacations.
The chatter was a rumor, not a direct threat, and upon further investigation it appeared to be unsubstantiated, district spokesman Randy Matheson said. Read more
Hazen remains alert after weapons rumor

Hazen High School is expected to operate normally today after a rumor that there may be a weapon brought to the school came to administrators’ attention, according to district spokesman Randy Matheson.
The chatter was a rumor, not a threat, and upon further investigation it appeared to be unsubstantiated, Matheson said.
“The rumor was uncorroborated,” he said. “We talked to a bunch of students and any staff who may have heard something and what we learned was that somebody heard something that someone else may have heard.” Read more
Issaquah schools will start late Tuesday

All Issaquah School District schools are delayed two hours Dec. 18 because of snow and icy conditions that blanketed the area early Tuesday morning.
Buses are on snow routes and the delay also means that morning activities, Headstart, preschool, morning school-aged care and morning and afternoon kindergarten are canceled.
