YMCA holds Thanksgiving food drive

The Coal Creek Family YMCA is hosting a Thanksgiving food drive to benefit families in the community.

Newcastle residents can help provide a wholesome, nutritious Thanksgiving meal for local families by dropping off nonperishable donations at the Coal Creek Family YMCA on Nov. 13 between 9-11 a.m. and 4-5:30 p.m.

The organization is seeking the following items: Canned fruit or vegetables, mashed potatoes, stuffing mix, canned cranberries, nonperishable pie crust and filling, Bisquick and Jam.

The Coal Creek Family YMCA is located at 13750 Newcastle Golf Club Road.

Hazen, Liberty athletes selected for all-league teams

Incumbents lead in Newcastle’s legislative, congressional races

Months of campaigning came to a head and locals finally got the chance to make their vote count Nov. 6 as Election Day came and went.

In the contests for the 41st Legislative District positions, early returns show that the majority of voters decided to stay with the incumbents.

Renton Democrat Marcie Maxwell charged ahead of Issaquah Republican Tim Eaves to represent the district in the state House of Representatives. Maxwell garnered 58 percent – or 24,000 votes – to Eaves’ 41 percent – or 17,242 votes. Read more

Discussion continues on 2013 preliminary budget with public hearings tonight

The Newcastle City Council will host public hearings about the 2013 preliminary budget and a proposed Transportation Improvement Plan at its regular council meeting Nov. 6.

At the meeting, the City Council will discuss revenue sources for the upcoming budget, including consideration of possible increases in property tax revenues.

The agenda for tonight’s meeting can be found here and the city has posted a copy of the 2013 preliminary budget on its website here.

Citizens that are unable to attend the public hearing can submit their comments to the city clerk at cityclerk@ci.newcastle.wa.us, before 4 p.m. on Nov. 6.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. Nov. 6 in the City Council Chambers in City Hall.
