Glitch delays ballots for 11,000 Eastside voters, including Newcastle residents

King County Elections officials said ballots for 11,000 Eastside voters — including more than 100 people in Newcastle — did not go out last week as planned due to a glitch.

The elections office plans to mail ballots Saturday; voters should receive them early next week. The deadline to return ballots via mail, drop box or accessible voting center is Nov. 8.

Overall, the issue impacted 11,000 Eastside voters, including 54 in Issaquah, 141 in Newcastle and 875 in Sammamish. Some North Bend and Snoqualmie voters also face delays in receiving ballots.

King County Elections started mailing 1.1 million ballots to voters Oct. 19.

Reduced adoption fees offered by Regional Animal Services

Regional Animal Services of King County is offering a treat for Halloween — reduced adoption fees for cats and kittens through Oct. 31.

The agency reduced the adoption fee for cats from $55 to $30 and from $100 to $75 for kittens.

October is also Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month.

Regional Animal Services of King County includes a pet license, neutering or spaying, microchipping and initial vaccinations in the dog adoption fee. The fees range from $100 to $250, depending on the dog’s age and breed.

Liberty soccer clinches KingCo title, No. 1 seed in state playoffs

They’ve already wrapped up the KingCo Conference 3A/2A title Oct. 20 with a 5-3 victory against host Juanita.

They’ve already clinched the automatic No. 1 seed in the Class 3A state playoffs.

But make no mistake — the Liberty High School girls soccer team is still focused on the here and now.

“We’re not thinking about state yet,” Liberty junior Kailiana Johnson said. “We’ve been focusing on games coming up next week and then we’re going to focus on post-season during our off week and get prepared.”

The KingCo title is the second straight for the Patriots, who captured the league’s state 3A berth earlier in the week with a 3-0 win against Lake Washington.
