Newcastle resident Petra Sovcovova will star as the Widow Corney in a Lyric Opera Northwest production of the Broadway musical “Oliver!” at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Moore Theatre in Seattle.

The show is one night only.

Sovcovova is a soprano who has played roles such as Micaela in Georges Bizet’s “Carmen,” and Musetta and Mimi in Giacomo Puccini’s “La Bohème.” However, she has performed outside of opera, working with British composer Andrew Keeling and singing at humanitarian benefits for the homeless in Seattle, according to a news release.

She has also performed for the first secretary of the Czech Embassy, and she recently recorded eight opera arias with Canadian Juno- and Grammy-nominated artist and producer Tom Keenlyside.

Sovcovova made her international debut in Italy singing “Rosina” in Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” and “Dorabella” in “Cosi fan Tutti,” according to the news release.

Fellow “Oliver!” cast member Kim Cooney said Sovcovova “provides the comic relief that buffers the dark side of Victorian London, yet never forgets to make the most of her operatic soprano training and talent.”

Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for students. Click here or call 877-784-4849 toll free to purchase tickets.
