Robin and Steven Ryan teamed up with former Seahawk Mack Strong and his wife Zoe Higheagle-Strong to produce a book drive benefiting American Indian children. The drive brought in 1,171 books. Contributed

Three Liberty High School students were expelled for possession of what police and Issaquah School District officials say they suspect is marijuana on Jan. 13, 20 and 21.

The Liberty Patriots wrestling team finished its 2009-2010 season undefeated, taking the KingCo Crest championship. Seven seniors — including captains Wright Noel Jr. and Danny Velasquez — helped carry the team to victory this year.
Q & A with marathoner Thomas Tan

Q: What made you decide to start running marathons?
A: We received heartbreaking news that my grandma had passed away. I was very close to my grandma and regretted missing the chance to say goodbye, because I was always working. I went through a difficult grieving period during which I was sadly withdrawn from my family. I started running out of guilt and remorse and I ran my first marathon — the 2005 Chicago Marathon — in memory of my grandma, and because I needed to experience pain. By my third marathon, I began to realize that I am actually drawn to long-distance running because of my curiosity and desire to keep pushing myself. Read more

Liberty Patriots’ basketball programs struggled at times through January

The Liberty boys and girls basketball teams found spotty success in January.
The girls team went 3-4 during the month, defeating Decatur 55-26, Interlake 71-62 and Sammamish 50-25. The team lost to Juanita 50-33, Mercer Island 56-52, Mount Si 57-46 and Bellevue 41-33. Read more
