Drew Oliver is the new head football coach at Hazen High School.
Oliver is the school’s athletic coordinator and serves as a special-education teacher. Next fall, an assistant principal will assume the athletic coordinator function. Oliver will continue to teach special education.
He came to Hazen in fall 2008 after coaching football and wrestling at Newport High School for seven years. Oliver, 30, grew up in nearby Newport Hills and attended Hazelwood Elementary, McKnight Middle and Newport High schools. He lettered in football, wrestling and track while at Newport High.
“I’m thrilled about the new position and I can’t wait to get started,” Oliver said.
Hazen opens its season Sept. 4 on the road against Evergreen High School.
Scott Leick had the head football coaching job for the past six years.
Leick, a 1990 Hazen graduate, leaves with a 24-37 record. Hazen was 4-4 in the Seamount League last season and was 4-6 overall.
Leick accepted the head coaching job at Tyee High School in SeaTac. Tyee and Hazen are both members of the Seamount League.
