Energize Eastside scoping meetings begin

A slew of Eastside cities are ready to take the next step in exploring Puget Sound Energy’s Energize Eastside project.
Led by the city of Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, Renton and Newcastle will work together to provide an environmental review of PSE’s proposal to build about 18 miles of high-capacity electric transmission lines from Renton to Redmond.
The Energize Eastside Environmental Impact Statement is a legally mandated process that will critically evaluate potential significant environmental impacts associated with the project and project alternatives.
It begins in earnest this month with a 45-day comment period, highlighted by five community scoping meetings where residents are invited to share their thoughts about Energize Eastside. Read more
Commissions talk future park, recreational development at open house

The Newcastle Parks and Planning commissions will host an open house June 13, to discuss future park, trail and recreational development and planning in Newcastle.
Commissioners will gather public opinion on goals and policies for parks, trails and recreational facilities.
The commissions will also seek input on what level of service the city should maintain and which capital projects for parks the city should pursue.
Open house for 116th sidewalks rescheduled for January

City officials have rescheduled the open house for residents to view the proposed sidewalk designs for 116th Avenue Southeast to 6:30 p.m. Jan. 10 in Hazelwood Elementary School’s gym, 7100 116th Ave. S.E.
The open house had been scheduled for Nov. 22 at Hazelwood, but was canceled due to snow and ice.
Sidewalks are to be built on 116th Avenue Southeast from Southeast 88th to Southeast 84th streets.
The City Council reviewed three design concepts for the project in August, and chose an option that calls for concrete sidewalks, curbs, gutters, driveway ramps and pedestrian ramps compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
