Newcastles of the world

A funny thing appeared in my inbox this morning.
The email’s subject read, “Newcastles of the World,” and asked if I was interested in learning about other towns and cities that share the Newcastle name.
Attached was a newsletter entitled “Newcastles News,” not to be confused with our Newcastle News.
Newcastles News chronicles happenings at Newcastles across the globe. With a simple perusal, I went on an international tour of Newcastles and learned some really fascinating things — for example:
- A Newcastle in South Africa is in the running for town of the year
- New Castle, Indiana received a grant to expand the Wilbur Wright Trail (yes, named after that Wright brother, who was born near New Castle)
- Newcastle, Ontario, Canada held its 21st annual Wooden Boat Festival in July
- A film shot in Shinshiro, Japan (which stands for, you guessed it, Newcastle) received a special honor at the Cannes Film Festival
The news about Newcastle goes on and on. Nothing from our Newcastle, yet, but I would love to see the city join this fun network of namesakes.
It was a really interesting read. I highly suggest residents take a look. View the newsletter here, and learn more about “Newcastles of the World” here.
