Two bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon at 2:50 EST on April 15, reportedly killing three and injuring upwards of 150 depending on the source.
Three entrants in the race listed Newcastle as their city of residence:
There are finish times listed on the Boston Marathon’s results site for only one of the three runners. Pietz and Overstreet appear to not have had the opportunity to finish the race. It is unknown at this time whether the bombs erupted before they reached the end or if they did not begin the race at all.
The Newcastle News received confirmation from Holly King, Dr. Joseph King’s wife, that the couple is safe and returning home.
On the Sweet Decadence Facebook page, owner Sandra Wixon confirmed that both Wayne Pietz and his wife are safe.
