National Night Out comes to Newcastle and communities nationwide Tuesday.

Several neighborhoods in Newcastle plan to observe the event.
National Night Out aims to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support and participation in local anticrime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals about neighborhoods organized against criminal activity.
In 2011,National Night Out involved residents, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from more than 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.
