Raymond White, 33, the man who police say is a serial car prowler who struck Newcastle numerous times this summer, was charged Sept. 14 with first-degree theft.
White pleaded not guilty to the charge when he was arraigned Monday, according to King County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Dan Donohoe. White will next be in court Sept. 28.
Newcastle Police Chief Melinda Irvine said she expects more charges to be brought against White in the future when more victims submit statements to authorities. Some fingerprint evidence is still being prepared, which may also yield more charges in the future, she said.
White is being held in the King County Jail System, and his bail for the theft charge was set at $10,000. However, the Department of Corrections issued a hold on White without bail, so he will remain in jail.
Newcastle Master Police Officer Jerry Gilley said White broke into at least a dozen cars, perhaps as many as 20. On one occasion, White stole $2,000 worth of property from a single vehicle, Gilley said.
