The Friendship Circle will honor Sarah Varon, 16, a student at Northwest Yeshiva High School on Mercer Island and the daughter of Julie and Mayor Ben Varon, for her volunteerism.
She will be honored during Friendship Circle’s fourth annual volunteer appreciation dinner June 4 at the Spirit of Washington Event Center in Renton. In addition, Sarah’s parents, siblings Rachel and Sam, and 70 high school volunteers will also be honored.
The Friendship Circle is a nonprofit organization that provides respite to families with children with special needs. The Friendship Circle’s goal is to provide a service for these families as well as empower young adults to make a difference in a child’s life.
“The Friendship Circle strengthens the fabric of our community by empowering children, promoting volunteerism in young adults and creating a net of support for parents of children with special needs,” said Rabbi Bogomiskly, executive director of The Friendship Circle.
“Sarah is a dedicated volunteer who has given the Friendship Circle countless hours of her time in addition to motivating her family to get involved and learn more about the Friendship Circle,” Bogomiskly said. “Sarah is an inspiration to her peers and the families she spends time with during the Friendship Circle’s Friends at Home Program and Sunday Circle.”
Julie Varon said she’s proud of Sarah’s dedication and service to the community.
“I think it’s wonderful to see her efforts acknowledged,” Julie Varon said.
In addition to honoring Sarah and her family, Friendship Circle will present teen volunteers with the Mitchell Stein Volunteer Award of Excellence. The award was created on behalf of a volunteer at The Friendship Circle who died of brain cancer.
